Rob won the first ABC of the 2023 season at the Cueball Club in Derby.

Rob came through a loaded top half of the draw to claim the win.

In his first round match he beat ex professional Mark Hirst 302-161. In the Last 16 he beat the teesider Ron Bickerdyke 379-154 and made a 191 break. In the quarter final Rob beat a fine player in John Hughes 388-116 and made a 131 break. Then in the semi final came the clash of the day between Rob and the world #4 Peter Sheehan, after a scrappy first thirty minutes Rob managed to get control of the match and eek out a two hundred point lead when the bell went to win 346-136. In the final Rob played Barry Russell who had a great day to reach his first EABA final taking a few notable scalps along the way, especially his win over the world #8 Ryan Mears. Rob won the match 393-180 making a 239 on his way to his 43rd ABC victory.
